When minerals become concentrated and form solid crystals, kidney stones occur. If these crystals get stuck in the ureter (the tube that drains the urine into the bladder), they can obstruct the drainage of urine. This causes pain and discomfort. Some kidney stones get passed out naturally. However, for those that do not pass on their own, a surgical or a less invasive procedure is the option.
